The source of my career

Lots of people are familiar with Knoll, but most people don't know that Florence Knoll really pioneered the interior design field. She (along with predecessors like Elsie de Wolfe) is responsible for validating interior design as a professional career choice. Her background in architecture spurred her interest in creating fully flushed out spaces and her belief in "total design." Without fully going into a history lesson, I have to say I am thrilled to see that a book about Knoll has been published! Knoll: A Modernist Universe is getting fantastic reviews and thumbs up from Elle Decor, The New York Times, and Vanity Fair. I love Knoll, I love their timeless products and impeccable quality. But as a designer I must say I love their people. My reps and Knoll dealers are just so fantastic and so good to us here at the MWDA and to me that is so important. It makes using their product so much more enjoyable, so thank you Knoll Atlanta!

If you have never seen their amazing showroom on the Westside here are some photos (courtesy of Knoll.com) and if you want to get the beautiful book, click here!

An Education

So excited about this educational work we have been doing, it's really fun and refreshing. Yesterday I drove down and back to Savannah for a meeting (long long day) on our latest university project, here is a taste of what we are doing, I can't wait to see it finished with furniture!

Stone Compass Rose MWDA designed and I rendered about 15 times until we decided we liked the layout. This is the University's emblem.

Although it doesn't photograph well, the entire lobby ceiling is a beautiful barrel vault where we did a venetian plaster finish. It's just amazing, I was so excited I peed a little.

Student corridor...so light and bright!

My super cute kitchens with blue cabinets and Caesarstone counter tops!

View of the back of the building, it's going to be so beautifully landscaped!

ASID Happiness

Mark and I are thrilled to announce that we have won 2 ASID Design Excellence Awards! We received a Silver Award in the Model Home category and a Bronze in Residential under 3,500 sq/ft. Gold, Silver, Bronze, I don't really care, I am just excited! Can I please tell you how incredibly nervous I was driving over there, luckily a few cocktails in I started to calm down, but I was a total mess. Panic stricken in the car I had the air on full blast because I was sweating and thinking a mile a minute--"what if we don't win anything..that would be sad..." and "what if we win and have to say something? I don't want to make a speech. I'll make Mark do that..." and my worst fear, "I am wearing 6" platforms...what if we win and I go up to receive the award and I fall...oh lord help me!" But all of my fears were quickly put to rest and it was a lovely evening. Thanks to Corporate Environments for having us as their guest, it was such a good time!

This is my new friend...his name is Bird. I heart him.

Sweet Tracy Bennett from CE, she tried to keep my calm by distracting me with wine and silliness.

Lost Easter Bunny

I know it's a little late but this is the first time it occurred to me to share some of our insane Greek Easter with you. My friend William took these amazing pictures, and it's really just a taste of what the whole day was like. Let me break it down... 1 whole lamb, 1 whole goat, 5 bottles of ouzo, 4 cases of wine, 1 keg, 14 different desserts, 250 Easter eggs, 1 bounce house, 50 lobster tails, all 5 nieces and nephews (finally), 90 rented chairs, 1 giant tent, 150+ friends and family, all happy to be eating meat again after fasting for 40 days...all in my back yard. It was a blast and we had so much fun and ate way too much. Until next year!

Lonny loves my cousin!

I know I have written about my discovery of Lonny Mag, but my dad just sent me an email and told me they did a spread on one of my cousins from Texas! Her name is Laurann, she is a writer and she and her sister produce a line of killer sleepy time apparel called Claridge + King (I own several and sleep in them all the time...and sometimes wear them out, I'm not going to lie.) Locally (in GA) you can find them at Tootsies, Luna, and Gramercy, but check their website and you can order from there as well. Anyway, click here (page 156) to see Laurann's beautiful home in Lonny!

Busy busy!

On this incredibly beautiful day I am tortured by the fact that the lovely Atlanta atmosphere is only located about 10 feet from my desk. Meanwhile I am stuck behind it. Sad face. However I do recognize that fact that we at the MWDA are very busy and we are very fortunate for that. So aside from my longing to throw my computer on the ground and sit outside with a icy beverage (preferably alcoholic) I will continue to do my work like a good little design bee.

I am here.....

I want to be here + a cocktail.....
